Whilst we would encourage young people to discuss problems with their parents we will respect your decision if you decide not to. Under such circumstances we are happy to see you on your own, or with a family member or friend of your choice to offer advice and support on any health matter. At Ash Surgery we understand that the duty of confidentiality owed to persons aged under 16 is the same as that owed to any older person. The staff at this practice will not disclose any information- personal or otherwise- to any third party without the express permission of the person concerned. The only exception to this would be in the unusual situation when a person is deemed to be at risk of serious harm. The Kent C Card scheme provides young people aged 19 and under with access to free condoms in places other than clinics.

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust - Sexual Health
With the right attitude and education, you can easily side-step the grim reality of STIs while at university and beyond. But, since condoms are freely available from family planning clinics, genitourinary medicine GUM clinics and even at universities themselves, why are students still participating in such risky sexual behaviour? The aim of this survey? To change the way sex education is taught in schools and to encourage young people to take the necessary precautions in protecting their sexual health. When it comes to advice and information about sex, the majority of students revealed they found the internet the most helpful. While cases of chlamydia have dropped, health professionals fear this may not be due to a drop in actual cases, but a drop in testing.

STI Clinics Canterbury
It is feared thousands of students will fail to get screened for sexually-transmitted diseases if a clinic at the University of Kent is drastically downgraded. A petition has been launched to save sexual health services at risk of closure at the University Medical Centre at the Canterbury campus. The treatment it offers includes chlamydia testing and contraception advice, but Kent County Council is currently recommissioning the service. The petition has already been signed by hundreds of the 14, students and residents who can access the clinic within walking distance. An alternative suggestion is for students to use sexual health services at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, but there are concerns they could refuse to travel further.
